Zhang Xu (c. 675 – c. 750), courtesy name Bogao, was from Wuxian, Wu Commandery (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu Province). He was a mid-Tang dynasty calligrapher who served as the magistrate of Changshu during the Kaiyuan era and later as Chief Officer of the Jinwu Guard, earning the title "Zhang Changshi." Renowned for his mastery of calligraphy, he was famously known as the "Sage of Cursive Script."
