楊凝式(873年-954年),字景度,號虛白,陝西華陰人,居洛陽。生於唐懿宗咸通十四年,卒於後周世宗顯德元年(954年),享年八十二歲。唐昭宗時進士,官秘書郎,後歷仕後梁、唐、晉、漢、週五代,官至太子太保,世稱“楊少師”。楊凝式在書法歷史上歷來被視為承唐啟宋的重要人物。 “宋四家”(即蘇軾、黃庭堅、米芾、蔡襄)都深受其影響。

Yang Ningshi (873–954), courtesy name Jingdu, art name Xubai, was from Huayin, Shaanxi, and lived in Luoyang. Born in the 14th year of the Xiantong reign of Emperor Yizong of Tang and died in the first year of Xiande of Emperor Shizong of Later Zhou, aged 82. He passed the imperial examination during the reign of Emperor Zhaozong of Tang and served as a secretary official. He subsequently served through five dynasties—Later Liang, Tang, Jin, Han, and Zhou—and reached the rank of Grand Tutor to the Crown Prince, earning the title “Yang Shaoshi.” Yang Ningshi is historically regarded as a pivotal figure bridging Tang and Song calligraphy. The “Four Masters of Song” (Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Mi Fu, and Cai Xiang) were deeply influenced by him.
