顏真卿(709年-785年)小名羨門子,別號應方出生在家學傳統的家庭,由於先輩中有不少古文字學家及書法家。顔真卿少時家境貧窮缺紙筆,只能用筆醮黃土水在墻上練字。

Yan Zhenqing (709–785), childhood name Xianmenzi, also known as Yingfang, was born into a family with a strong scholarly tradition. Many of his ancestors were experts in ancient scripts and calligraphy. During his youth, Yan Zhenqing’s family was poor and lacked paper and brushes, so he practiced calligraphy by dipping his brush in yellow earth mixed with water and writing on walls.
