The Lingfei Jing is a classic model for learning small regular script (xiaokai) and can be traced back to the Qing dynasty. It combines the refined skill of sutra-copying calligraphy with the elegance of the “Two Wangs” style (Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi). Many renowned calligraphers—such as Zhao Mengfu of the Yuan dynasty, Wen Zhengming and Dong Qichang of the Ming dynasty, and the modern master Qi Gong—were influenced by this workThe full title of the text is Lingfei Liu Jia Jing (Lingfei Six Jia Sutra), a Taoist scripture primarily expounding on meditation and inner visualization practices (cunsi). It was transcribed in the 26th year of the Tang Kaiyuan era (738), without a signature. It was later attributed to Tang calligrapher Zhong Shaojing by Yuan scholar Yuan Jue and Ming scholar Dong Qichang. Today, most scholars believe it was written by a professional scribe in the imperial court of the Tang dynasty.
