Deng Shiru (1743–1805), originally named Yan, courtesy name Shiru, later changed his courtesy name to avoid the taboo of Emperor Jiaqing’s name. He also used the courtesy name Wanbo and had multiple pseudonyms including Jiyou Daoren, Wanbai Shanren, Fengshui Yuzhang, and Longshan Qiaozhang. He was from the Deng family ancestral home in Bailinfan, Huaining County, Anhui Province (now Bailin Village, Wuheng Township, Yixiu District, Anqing City). Deng Shiru was a renowned seal carver and calligrapher of the Qing dynasty, and the founder of the Deng school of seal carving.
